Home Births
Are Home Births Really Safe? Not only is home birth safe, the latest statistics from the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention show that infant mortality rates (the number of deaths between birth and
the first birthday) are lowest for babies delivered by midwives - In fact, they are half that of babies delivered by physicians.
What If There Are Complications? If, during the course of your pregnancy, you develop complications that require medical attention, I will refer you to a qualified physician. If your condition does not preclude
home birth, I will work in conjunction with the physician and continue to provide your prenatal care. If your condition eliminates the possibility of a home birth, I will release you into the care of the physician.
If it becomes necessary to seek medical assistance during your labor due to unexpected complications, I will accompany you to the nearest hospital that can provide
the appropriate care. If hospital transport becomes advisable but is not an emergency, I will accompany you to the hospital of your choice. Either way, I will stay with you until your baby is born.
Why If The Pain Is Too Intense? Although there is always some pain in bringing a new baby into the world, a great deal of the pain associated with birth is caused by our custom of restricting laboring women to
bed. By allowing women to move about and follow their natural instincts, I have found that simple remedies such as a warm bath or a massage are enough to make the pain bearable for most women.
Why If I Have Had A Cesarean Section? Yes, unless your former uterine incision was verticle. With your permission, I can obtain a copy of your hospital records so we can find out for sure.
What About A Water Birth? Water birth is wonderfull. It allows your baby to gently make the transition from a fluid environment to an air environment, and it provides a lot of support and comfort for
mom. If you are interested in a water birth, we can use your hot tub or you can rent my portable hydro-therapy spa for a small fee.
What About A Birth Center? If you prefer to use a birth center or if your insurance will only cover your birth if your usa a birth center, I will be happy to help you make the necessary arrangements. Of
course, any charges for using a birth center are in addition to my fees.
